Victorian Pavilions
The historic pavilions are some of Tower Grove Park's most recognizable features. Their intricate architecture and timeless design create elegant portraits that feel both romantic and uniquely St. Louis.
The Lake
The lake offers a peaceful setting with calm water, mature trees, and beautiful reflections that add depth to your photos. Whether you're strolling along the shoreline, relaxing on a nearby bench, or capturing the warm evening light across the water, this area creates romantic, natural portraits with a quiet, timeless feel.

Tree-Lined Drives
Towering trees frame the park's winding roads, creating beautiful leading lines and soft, filtered light. These shaded avenues are perfect for natural, candid moments together.
Lily Ponds
The lily ponds provide a peaceful setting with calm water, lush greenery, and seasonal blooms. It's an ideal spot for quiet, intimate portraits with a serene atmosphere.

Stone Bridges
The park's historic stone bridges add texture and character to your gallery. They offer a timeless backdrop that blends beautifully with the surrounding landscape.
Wooded Walking Paths
Tucked beneath a canopy of mature trees, these trails offer a more secluded feel away from the park's open spaces. They create the perfect setting for relaxed walks and genuine moments together.

Seasonal Flower Gardens
Throughout the year, the park's gardens burst with colorful blooms that bring life and vibrancy to your engagement photos. They offer beautiful pops of color without overwhelming the natural setting.
Historic Stonework & Staircases
Decorative stone walls, staircases, and architectural details add depth and variety throughout the park. These features create elegant portraits with a classic, timeless feel.
The Ruins
One of Tower Grove Park's most distinctive features, the stone ruins create a romantic, old-world atmosphere that feels almost hidden within the park. The weathered stone, ivy, and surrounding trees add incredible texture and character, making it a favorite spot for timeless, cinematic portraits.
What To expect when photographing at Tower Grove Park
Tower Grove Park is one of the largest and most popular parks in St. Louis, so it’s common to see other visitors enjoying the walking trails, gardens, and open spaces, especially on weekends. The park is large enough that we can easily move between locations and find quieter areas for your portraits while taking advantage of its incredible variety of scenery.
Because there is so much to explore, expect to spend part of your session walking between some of the park’s most beautiful locations. Comfortable shoes are always a good idea, and many couples choose to bring a second pair to wear between portrait spots. From historic stone ruins and elegant pavilions to peaceful lakes and tree-lined paths, each stop offers a unique backdrop that helps create a gallery filled with variety and personality.
Tower Grove Park photographs beautifully in every season. Spring brings colorful blooms, summer offers lush green landscapes, fall fills the park with vibrant foliage, and even winter showcases the beauty of its historic architecture and winding paths. No matter the time of year, the park provides countless opportunities for timeless, romantic photographs.
When To schedule your session at Tower Grove Park
The best time for an engagement session at Tower Grove Park is during the last 1–2 hours before sunset. This is when the light becomes soft, warm, and flattering, creating the romantic glow that makes the park’s gardens, historic architecture, and tree-lined paths look their very best. Golden hour also helps produce beautiful skin tones and adds depth and warmth to every image.
Morning sessions are another excellent option, especially if you’d like to avoid crowds or are planning your session on a weekend. The park is generally quieter early in the day, and the soft morning light creates a fresh, peaceful atmosphere that’s perfect for natural, relaxed portraits. While midday sessions are certainly possible, the softer light of morning or evening consistently produces the most flattering and timeless results.
This image was taken in a clearing between trees right before a huge storm came. The clowds provided such a good reflecting of golden light. I chose to use black and white because of the shadows it highlighted. I am not afraid of shadows.
Anyways, while Tower Grove Park is beautiful throughout the day, midday is generally the least ideal time for an engagement session. When the sun is directly overhead, it creates harsh light, strong shadows, and bright highlights that can be less flattering in photographs. The park’s mature trees provide plenty of shade, but the most consistent and beautiful light is found during the first couple of hours after sunrise or the last couple of hours before sunset.
